Hi, I’m Rachel.
I love thinking, talking, making, reading, and generally daydreaming about food, so I thought I’d try writing about it! This blog will be my way to share musings on all things food: recipes, restaurant reviews, equipment, memories, tips, news, favorites, and other miscellaneous thoughts and adventures.
A little bit about me:
◊ I was born in Chicago and have returned home to live…so many of my posts will be local to the Windy City. I have also resided in Providence, Seattle, Boston, and London and had some amazing edible experiences in each!
◊ I grew up in a food-obsessed family and married a food-loving man.
◊ I believe anyone can be a foodie, and that what comes out of a street cart, a fine-dining establishment, and your own kitchen can be equally mind-blowing.
◊ I also believe that while food is one of the great joys of life, we often forget to prioritize it as we live in a fast-paced world. Sometimes, even if just for a moment, it feels really great to put food first.

You are an amazing and talented food lover and cannot wait to read more about you and your foodventures soon!
Yay Rachel! SO glad you sent around the note – I’m such a foodie myself and LOVE your posts so far! What a good outlet. Anyway, go for the goal 🙂 I’m looking forward to the posts!
Rachel this is awesome!
Serendipitously, I just got online to write my sister-in-law for recipes. I am hosting dinner for a doctor and his wife on Friday (not sure my sloppy joes will impress them). I’ll probably serve steak, since it is easy. Any fancy (and easy) side recipes for a Non-Chef?
Hi Keira! I’m sure your sloppy joes are completely delicious, but for steak sides I think some of your best bets for quick and easy recipes would be:
SPINACH…in the great steakhouse tradition, you could serve it creamed: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Creamed-Spinach-Deluxe-234150
POTATOES…a fancy but simple twist is to serve them twice-baked: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Shortcut-Twice-Baked-Potatoes-with-Bacon-108837
Both of the above are very rich, so you might want to choose one and then serve a simple baked potato or sauteed spinach alongside.
Also, you can’t go wrong with sauteed mushrooms (for a special occasion I like to use a more unusual variety, like shiitake)…here’s a really easy recipe from Julia Child:

Good luck and let me know how it goes!
